Geoff Brunner showed Mizzou love at the finish line of the Race Across America wearing the 2007 Tiger Stripe team jersey. The iconic jersey design that caught attention at collegiate nationals strikes again at the self proclaimed "World's Toughest Cycling Race."
Rarely sleeping more than three hours at a time and supported by a loyal (and mobile) team, riders scramble to complete the course under the official cutoff of 12 days.
Twelve days to cross America - and top riders do it in less, somewhere in the eight to nine day range.
And while the Race Across America is a race, simply finishing is a victory in and of itself. Geoff Brunner was the last official finisher of the 2011 race, crossing the finish line with but a moment to spare before the 12 day cutoff elapsed. Riding for Team J327 Brunner raised donations from his 3000 mile journey to benefit Dream Come True to benefit seriously, chronically and terminally ill children.
Starting in aptly named Oceanside, California and ending at another ocean side in Annapolis, Maryland the legendary Race Across America runs 3000 miles across every variety of American terrain. Through desert, over two mountain ranges, cross vast plains and through dense forests a small contingent of elite riders pedal for a finish line that sits not only thousands of miles, but thousands of feet climbing and several centuries of American history away from their starting point. The race is unlike any other, and the feat of endurance rivals that of the world's greatest tours.
